Dear Brown Community Members,
We have been closely monitoring weather conditions for tomorrow’s predicted winter storm. The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for 6:00 am Friday, February 8 through 1:00 pm Saturday, February 9 and indicated that snowfall is expected to develop in the region during the morning and continue throughout the day and night, with the greatest impact currently expected to be late Friday afternoon and evening and into Saturday morning. This is predicted to be a dangerous storm with potentially life-threatening conditions. All members of the community should pay close attention to weather forecasts, guidance from university and government officials, and take appropriate precautions.
Travel will be difficult during the day, and we anticipate city and state officials will request that motorists stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely essential.Accordingly, Brown University administrative offices and operations will be closed and all classes will be cancelled on Friday, February 8, 2013.
Verney Woolley Dining Hall will be open from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm on Friday, February 8th. Sharpe Refectory will be open from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm on Friday, February 8th and from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm on Saturday, February 9th. Other locations may be closed - please check the Dining Services website for the latest information. For information about athletic events, please refer to the Department of Athletics website. For information about other University services, please refer to department websites.
Before leaving for the day today, please lock all windows and complete other storm preparedness steps.
Please take steps to ensure your own safety during the storm. Stay indoors during periods of heavy snow and high winds and monitor local weather for updated forecasts. For more information about emergency preparedness go to the Brown Ready website.
We will continue to update the community with additional information as necessary. If you have not already done so, make certain your emergency contact information (personal cell phone and home or off-campus housing phone numbers) is up to date so that we can contact you as quickly as possible in the event of an emergency. Phone numbers can be added or updated by going to the MyAccount page.
